Share market a gamble: Ashraf

FE Report (January 13, 2011)

The share market is not unstable in anyway, and nothing happened to it for which it can get importance in the media, said LGRD Minister Syed Ashraful Islam Wednesday, reports bdnews24.com.

"Share market investment is a gamble, where record rise and fall are usual," he told reporters at a press briefing at Awami League president's political office at Dhanmondi.

"Investors should consider the risk of investment in the share market," he said, claiming that the country's 99 per cent people have no idea about share business.

"There had been arsons when the prices fell, but there was no jubilant procession when the prices sprinted up," he said.

The Dhaka Stock Exchange had been experiencing downtrend in prices since the end of the last year, and its general index lost 660 points in the early hours of trading on Monday, prompting the Securities and Exchange Commission to stop trading for the rest of the day. Outraged by the freefall, general investors took to the street and clashed with law-enforcers.
